Position Description: The Department of Human Evolutionary Biology seeks to appoint a tenure-track or tenured professor in the fields of physiology or behavioral ecology, including, but not limited to, areas such as energetics, life-history, aging, immune function, and reproductive ecology. We are interested in candidates who address these fields from an evolutionary perspective in humans or non-human primates, and welcome candidates whose research includes fieldwork as well as laboratory-based studies (including on model organisms). The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2017. The appointee will teach and advise at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This is a 1-year position reporting to Dr. Norman Li, to start as soon as possible, and no later than February 1, 2017. This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in a project involving a funded international collaboration with top scholars. The project will utilize evolutionary psychological perspectives and social psychological methods to study the low fertility issue that pervades all of East Asia and much of Europe. Responsibilities include: 1) assembling, managing, and orchestrating various experimental studies, 2) supervising a team of research assistants, 3) managing organizational and administrative work associated with the grant, 4) assisting with various aspects of manuscript preparation (e.g., literature review, data analysis, writing), and 5) attending to miscellaneous (ad hoc) tasks as needed.
We are seeking these qualifications/skills:
• PhD in social or evolutionary psychology
• Track record in publishing peer-reviewed journal articles
• Organizational skills and ability to manage research assistants
• Conscientiousness and self-motivation (can make meaningful, timely progress with minimal supervision)
• Motivation and ability to identify ways to expand or improve aspects of the research

UC Davis, Department of Communication – Quantitative Models of Human Communication
For this position, we seek a scholar with research interests focused on quantitative model building in communication. Human communication is an essential building block in the emergence of complex social systems. Models aimed at understanding and identifying the fundamental theoretical building blocks of human communication have the potential to inform all the social sciences, which includes areas such as cooperation and coordination, trust and goal manipulations, contagion and diffusion, technology adaption and technological change, organizational communication and team-building, community development, social network evolution, and democratic processes. Applicants are sought from scholars conducting theory-driven and theory-building research through modern modeling tools, such as agent-based models, computer simulations and other numerical solutions, which are informed by analytical approaches, such as game theory, dynamical systems theory, information theory, or statistical mechanics. The applicant must show evidence that developed models are grounded in empirical data from the social sciences. Applicants must be willing to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in model building, as well as additional courses from the Department’s offerings as needed. Applicants’ research program must be consistent with the Department’s affiliation with the Division of Social Sciences. A doctorate degree and publications and research work in the social sciences are required. Persons with Ph.D. pending will be considered only if the degree will be awarded prior to the beginning of instruction on September 19, 2016. Demonstrated research and teaching competence are required. Applicants must have the potential to secure external funding.
